Asymmetric lateral sound beaming in a Willis medium

چکیده
Willis coupling, also known as pressure-velocity cross in acoustic materials has received much attention the past years. This effect been found useful metasurface designs for wave redirection. We find that coupling phononic crystals provides rich physics to manipulate waves. Here, we report extreme asymmetric lateral sound beaming a two-dimensional crystal composed of scatterers. By matching second-order Bragg scattering with two leaky guided modes (a quadrupole resonance and cross-coupling-induced dipole resonance), normally incident is redirected towards positive negative directions orthogonal different amounts energy. Simulation experimental results demonstrate extraordinary medium. The presented here may applications design tunable beam splitters waveguides.

Sound waves in the intracluster medium of the Centaurus cluster
We report the discovery of ripple-like X-ray surface brightness oscillations in the core of the Centaurus cluster of galaxies, found with 200 ks of Chandra observations. The features are between 3 to 5 per cent variations in surface brightness with a wavelength of around 9 kpc. If, as has been conjectured for the Perseus cluster, these are sound waves generated by the repetitive inflation of ce...
متن کاملOn viscosity, conduction and sound waves in the intracluster medium
Recent X-ray and optical observations of the Perseus cluster indicate that the viscous and conductive dissipation of sound waves is the mechanism responsible for heating the intracluster medium and thus balancing radiative cooling of cluster cores. We discuss this mechanism more generally and show how the specific heating and cooling rates vary with temperature and radius. It appears that the h...
متن کاملExposing asymmetric gray matter vulnerability in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Limb weakness in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is typically asymmetric. Previous studies have identified an effect of limb dominance on onset and spread of weakness, however relative atrophy of dominant and non-dominant brain regions has not been investigated. Our objective was to use voxel-based morphometry (VBM) to explore gray matter (GM) asymmetry in ALS, in the context of limb domina...
متن کاملChanges in Lateral Comitance After Asymmetric Horizontal Strabismus Surgery.
IMPORTANCE Asymmetric horizontal strabismus surgery is often performed to correct primary gaze alignment without considering the symptoms that may result from misalignment in the patient's side gaze. Surgical choices influence alignment in side gaze and may contribute to functional and social deficits. OBJECTIVE To identify the surgical procedures associated with changes of alignment in side ...
متن کاملBeaming light from a subwavelength aperture.
Light usually diffracts in all directions when it emerges from a subwavelength aperture, which puts a lower limit on the size of features that can be used in photonics. This limitation can be overcome by creating a periodic texture on the exit side of a single aperture in a metal film. The transmitted light emerges from the aperture as a beam with a small angular divergence (approximately +/-3 ...
